Being Heard is keen on measuring how well they’re doing as instructors; they know that each couple is individual and that a cookie-cutter approach to teaching a Couples Communication Class doesn’t work.  They’re aware that each class forms its own “personality”, one they learn from and respect.  More importantly for you is that, as a couple, you achieve what you want to achieve — in a clear, understandable, and meaningful way.

CDOI/PCOMS:  Measurements of progress are part of the Skinners’ belief that both teaching and learning are “evidence based”, and are especially useful as outcome measures for couples.  Client-Directed Outcome-Informed report is completed by clients before and after each class via a simple 4-question rating on the ORS (Outcome Rating Scale) where you report on how you’re doing, and an additional 4 questions about how your instructors are doing, the SRS (Session Rating Scale).  Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS) is recognized by two states (Arizona and Colorado) as an evidence based treatment and it is currently under review by SAMHSA  (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) for national evidence based treatment designation.

The information is charted on a graph, translating all those ratings into something visual. Each of us can see growth and change over six weeks.  Rating us on how we’re doing as instructors is done weekly through the 4 questions of the SRS (Session Rating Scale) and how you’re doing by answering the 4 questions of the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS). Developed by Scott Miller and Barry Duncan, the technique is simple and very powerful. When clients are made partners in their own progress, an increase in class satisfaction and an improvement in personal goal attainment rises by over 50%. Amazing.
